Red Lips Symposium

Yes, I have admired women who can wear red lips my whole life. You would think being a makeup artist I would boldly spread on luscious red lip color and be a charter member of ‘women who wear red lips.’ I guess for now I’m a Neutral lip girl.

To go for the luscious red lips look, here is the process that I use…

1. First, apply moisturizing lip balm to the lips.
2. Next, apply lip liner around the lip line. Never go over the lip line, but you might need to correct the lines of the lips with the lip pencil.
3. After the lips are lined, fill in lip with the pencil.
4. Then, take the lip color and a lip brush and fill in lip with lip color.
5. Next, powder the lips with translucent powder, and apply a second coat of lip color.
6. Finally, if you want a glossy look, apply clear lip-gloss.

If you’re ready to invest in a new red lipstick, my favorite reds are by: Lipstick Queen, Nars and Clarins.

I recommend these options that will work with all skin types.

• For a ‘reminiscent of red.’ very sheer look, try: Lipstick Queen, Saint Rouge
• For a bold, matte look, try: Nars, Fire Down Below and Nars, Jungle Red
• For staying power, try: Clarins, Cedar Red & Clarins Red

To top off the lips with a glossy look, I recommend Mac Lip Glass.

TIP: Makeup Forever makes some of my favorite lip pencils. However, I recommend purchasing the same brand of lipstick as your lip pencil. The lip pencil colors are pigmented to match the lip colors within each brand. To apply the lipstick, I prefer Sephora lip brushes.
